Minnesota Workers Comp for Home Health
Minnesota requires workers compensation for any employer with one or more employees, with very limited exceptions. Home health agencies use class 8835.

Minn. Stat. § 176.181: every employer must provide workers comp from the date of hire. Sole proprietors and partners may exclude themselves.
Typical rates 2026
MN class 8835: $1.80–$3.80 per $100 of payroll. Minnesota is slightly cheaper than Iowa for home health due to lower medical fee schedules.
Premium reductions
Minnesota's Voluntary Safety Group program can save 5%–10% on premium. Membership in the Minnesota Home Care Association also opens group purchasing discounts.
