SAMSU — the Somali Medical USMLE Student Association — brings Somali medical students worldwide into one community to study, practice, and pass Steps 1, 2, and 3 together.
🇸🇴 Bilaash. Aan wax wada baranno. Internet uun ayaa loo baahan yahay.
Most Somali medical students have the theory. What's missing is the practical bridge — how to take a patient history, how to communicate clearly in English, how to apply anatomy and biochemistry to a real case in a real hospital. SAMSU exists to close that gap.
We meet weekly on Zoom. We solve UWorld questions together. We discuss real hospital cases. We help each other understand how the US medical system actually works — HIPAA confidentiality, patient communication, and the soft skills that aren't in the books.
Somali medical students from Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Garowe, Nairobi, Minneapolis, Columbus, Toronto.
Steps 1, 2 CK, 2 CS/OET, and 3. We are working students helping students.
No fees. No catch. We build the network. Future paid courses will be opt-in for those who want more.
All you need is internet and motivation. We meet on Zoom and WhatsApp.
We run live UWorld blocks on Zoom 2–3 times a week. You also break out into smaller self-organized groups for daily practice and explain answers to each other in your own words.
Dr. Husain A. Sattar's textbook is our pathology backbone. We have the 2023 e-book and the 2026 hardcover. Each chapter has a discussion session — concept first, then USMLE-style application.
Most pass-the-USMLE failures aren't about the medicine — they're about the English. We work on medical vocabulary, history taking phrases, and explaining diagnoses to patients in clear English.
Chief complaint. HPI. ROS. PMH. SHx. FHx. We practice taking a structured history in English, and we cover HIPAA confidentiality so you understand the US patient-doctor framework.
Theory only takes you so far. We use real case discussions, anatomy spotters, and biochemistry pathways tied to actual disease — so you remember it for the test AND for the patient.
Mentors who have rotated in US hospitals walk through real cases — what the chief complaint was, how the workup unfolded, what the differential looked like, and how the team managed it.
We use the gold-standard pathology textbook for USMLE Step 1 prep — Dr. Husain Sattar's Fundamentals of Pathology. SAMSU has the 2023 e-book for digital study and a 2026 hardcover for in-person reference.
